PIG COMPLICATIONS,

BIG PREPARATIONS

OPINION

by Ranella Garay

The pork industry is one of the most booming businesses as of today, serving billions and billions of individuals worldwide; but all of this progress may be halted due to one concerning problem, the African Swine Fever (ASF).

As of today, the said hog disease has infested China, which is only a few hundred kilometers from the country.  According to theory, it may only take a couple of months for ASF to bombard our country's meat markets as well.

A number of experts suggested no panic from the public since ASF only affects hogs and other livestocks and not humans. Though it seems harmless, people should still take note that the meat they may be consuming may be butchered from a livestock who was sick, which may pose as a threat to the health.

Though professionals assure that we are safe from any 'threats' of ASF, it is still better to be vigilant and to check pork products we buy. In addition to this, canteens and meat shop must also be sure to double check their meat as double dead pork may double in amount since the disease has taken a toll of the country's hogs.

It is now advised that the public should remain vigilant and discrete of what meat they buy, whether they are the ones freshly butchered in the market or those that are already processed and sealed.
