NEWS

by Ranella Garay

Quezon National High School plans on revising policies and guidelines for the Science Technology Engineering (STE) program which would most likely take effect on the following year.

QNHS decided to update the program’s policy as the Bureau of Curriculum Development explained the revised policies and guidelines for Special Science Programs (SSP) for legislated science high schools and STE programs.

Based on the updated SSP policy, the school, parents, and students are expected to sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the official revision of the said curriculum.

The said policy also stated that the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) subject will be added to the package although there will be no change in the six hours of enhanced mathematics and science every week.

The school had already started building the foundation for the revision of the STE curriculum, starting with the new and updated learning environment for the program’s students.

Required physical facilities consist of separate laboratories for learning biology, mathematics, chemistry, and physics with complete equipment, accessories, internet connection, computers, and ICT gadgets; ICT or IT computer laboratory containing at least 35 computer units and such; multimedia or audiovisual room that can accommodate at least 100 students; and speech laboratory with at least 35 units of speech cubicles complete with speaking gadgets and equipment.

STE students will also undergo the Special Science Program Achievement Test (SSPAT) equivalent to the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) assessments for Grade 8 and 10 students to be conducted every March by the Central Office.

According also to the policy, there will be no changes in the screening procedure and admission requirements for upcoming Grade 7 students and the same assessments and rating system.
